Episode 32: Talking Communication, Perception, and Understanding your Story's impact on Marriage

Listen Later

Today licensed professional counselor, Taylor Keen, comes on the podcast and has an in depth conversation with us about relationships, communication, perception, and so much more. He breaks down needing to understand your own story and how that influences your reactions and decisions in every conversation, discussion, and argument you have with your significant other. Taylor emphasizes not to go 25 years before addressing struggles and come into therapy as a last ditch effort before divorce. The ability to find success with counseling is directly related to accountability, relationship, and the willingness to push into hard things and not shut down.

There are so many valuable topics addressed in this conversation you are going to want to listen whether you have been married one year or twenty years. The ability to be vulnerable and have curiosity about why you respond certain ways to your significant other is key to working through to hard moments in your relationship. Taylor reminds us that sometimes fighting is productive and that disagreements are normal, however degrading and demeaning each other is not. Clear communication is key in not only healthy relationships, but in overall healthy living.  Please not only listen, but share with anyone you know might be struggling with talking to their significant other in a productive way.
