You’ve gotta be loud! Sofia chats with the MAJESTIC Queen Lesli Margherita (Matilda the Musical, Dames at Sea, Zorro, Who’s Holiday, “Rule Your Kingdom”)!!! Lesli is best known for starring as the LOUD and emphatic Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda the Musical. She made her West End debut as Inez in Helen Edmunson’s musical Zorro, for which she won the Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Last holiday season, she starred as a blasphemous Cindy Lou Who in the raunchy Dr. Seuss sendup Who’s Holiday. Her other theatre credits include Mona Kent in Dames at Sea, Nurse Suzanne Medford in Hollywood Nurses, the Queen of Hearts in Alice By Heart and Zorba. On television, she has been featured in Opening Night, Lucky Stiff, NYPD Blue, The District, On the Lot, The Suite Life on Deck, Major Crimes and Donny. Last May, Lesli released the official album for her critically-acclaimed solo cabaret show “Rule Your Kingdom”. Lesli and I discuss Lesli’s experience performing as a Disney princess at Disneyland, possibly playing Bellatrix in a Harry Potter musical, her inspiration for playing Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda, why “Loud” can be an inspirational song, the origins of “Rule Your Kingdom”, the importance of being your authentic self, fangirling over Donna Murphy and more!
