Canada formally banned conversion therapy late in 2021, which took effect in early January 2022.

The widely discredited practice is aimed at changing a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.

The bill defines conversion therapy as any practice, treatment or service designed to change or repress a person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
