Secret #8: Lead “Squeeze” Funnels

Secrets #1-7 are classified as Section 1 of the DotCom Secrets book, where we learnt how to use hooks, tell stories, and create offers. You understood how we ascend our dream customers up the value ladder and how we communicate with them through our Attractive Character. You’ve also learnt the 7 phases of a funnel and how to use follow-up funnels to move people up the value ladder. In Section 2, we’re going to dive deep into the tactics of the different kinds of funnels you can use to generate sales.

If you’re born around the 80s, you’ve probably visited websites with pop-up advertisements. They usually asked for your email in exchange for something free. Those were extremely annoying, but they were an easy way for internet marketers at the time to build email lists and make money. Soon, Internet Explorer and other browsers started making pop-up blockers.

Luckily, there were some brilliant marketers who thought, “what if we made the pop-up the landing page itself?” They soon found that if they had a good enough offer, more people were giving away their emails, even though much less people saw the actual website. The result was that people were able to make more money because of such a landing page.

These landing pages are called Lead Funnels. There are 3 types:

  1. Lead “Squeeze” Funnel
  2. Survey Funnel
  3. Summit Funnel
  4. In this episode, we will go through what a Lead “Squeeze” Funnel is.

In case you’re wondering, a Lead “Squeeze” Funnel is called that because they “squeeze” the email out of the people going through it. There are only 2 pages. For page 1, let’s break down the Hook, Story, and Offer:

You’ll need an amazing offer, usually called a “lead magnet”, because it attracts leads to it. It could be an ebook, a coupon, a video, a membership site, or anything you can imagine. What you create is usually less important than what people want at that stage of the funnel. The better the offer, the more people will sign up. And the better that offer delivers, the more people will remember you and open your emails.

With regards to the Hook, you just need a headline that inspires curiosity. Make your audience feel like they’ll lose out if they don’t give you their email in exchange for this lead magnet.

And as for the Story, keep it as a simple sub headline. If the Offer is already easy to understand, there’s no need for a sub-headline that describes the Story.

On Page 2, this is your thank you page. This is where you direct your customers to the next products up your value ladder. If this is your only funnel, that’s alright, just keep nurturing your customers with Soap Opera Sequences and create your products along the way.
