The story opens in 2014 with Avery and her boyfriend Logan arguing angrily as they get ready for her surprise departure party. Logan pops the question to Avery as she is getting ready to move to London in an attempt to stop her from leaving. He leaves in rage as she rejects his proposition. Ten years later, Avery and Logan are both in new relationships and getting ready to take a vacation trip. They will meet the parents of their respective partners for the first time this year. They will be spending Christmas with the same family, though, as an unexpected turn of events reveals.
