Mary says: “If you imagine yourself as the battery of a mobile phone, you wouldn’t dream of not charging that mobile phone every day, but how often are we being pro-active about charging ourselves?” And, “it’s not being sel-fish to take care of ourselves it is being self-full” and the more we communicate compassionately with ourselves, the better chance we have to communicate compassionately with others.
Mary shares how we can manage our energy on a day-to-day basis and she talks about the four rooms of view that we need to be mindful of:
These rooms are a great diagnostic tool that we can use. So when we’re feeling a bit off or down, we need to ask ourselves: which room have I not been entering lately?
We also explore what tools there are to help us show up fully and positively when giving a presentation or showing up for an important meeting? And, positive affirmations, are they useful or just a gimmick?
We touch on the work of Amy Cuddy known for the phrase “fake it till you make it” and the Power Pose as well as what you can do when your tools don’t work and you’re still feeling off as you’re about to present or enter a meeting. What can you do to snap out of that state? Mary shares a fantastic question to kick-off any meeting which she calls the WWW&W question!
Stay till the end because Mary talks about how keeping a gratitude journal helps her and she shares three recommendations on how we can all start being more self-compassionate!
