In this episode Dante is questioned by St. John, about the third theological virtue of Love. Once he passes the test, he can once again see, and more clearly than ever before. He then sees a fourth light, that of Adam, the first soul that was ever made.
Dante has four questions for Adam, which concerns his time in the Garden of Eden, the deeper reason for why they were put into the exile, and which language Adam first spoke.
With this, Dante has reached the deepest of the human souls in Paradise, and is now in some sense at the top of the 8th sphere - with a greater capacity for vision (understanding) than ever before.
