S.L. Kanthan, a geopolitical analyst based in Bangalore, India, discusses the BRICS coalition of nations with regard to reestablishing a multipolar world hegemony; in previous decades, the United States has established a unipolar hegemony, but this power is under threat due to countries returning to trade in their local currencies and not the U.S. dollar. Kanthan argues that this push to de-dollarize in trading will continue, even though the dollar remains the global reserve currency.
