The final week of Jesus’ life is called “Passion Week,” after the Greek verb, “to suffer,” pascho. But this week is also aptly named because of the passion with which Jesus willingly went to the cross to pay for the sins of His people. It began with His triumphal, popularly acclaimed entry into Jerusalem, and it culminated in His atoning death on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection. Today, the Church around the world celebrates that week leading up to Easter Sunday, which includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
