Another in our series of Tools for your Author Toolbox, Dave Robison joins us today to talk about his experience with books and how he came to develop the Archivos platform for other fans and writers, and how many others are finding new and exciting ways to use it beyond its original scope.
Dave is a storyteller who has been captivated by tales and legends his entire life. He was drawn to the immersive storytelling of live theater at an early age, participating in community workshops and school productions, a passion that continued through high school and college. He was also drawn to role-playing games which led to a deep appreciation of speculative fiction, cutting his genre teeth on Robert E. Howard, Michael Moorcock, and JRR Tolkien.
This episode is full of laughter and great stories.
* The Archivos Insights and Brainstorms podcasts interview authors and talk about their craft of writing and then break down a story pitch with other authors to get those creative juices flowing.
We never did get a copy of Dave’s Curious George/Paddington Bear fan fic adventures…
Archivos is an online story development and presentation tool that allows you document and explore your story worlds like never before.
* Archivos launched in April of 2018 and Dave Robinson has been working hard to introduce it to convention and conference attendees all over the map.
* It was inspired by the Visual Thesaurus with the way that the results are linked with relationships.
* Each user has found their own unique way of using the software, in different and unexpected ways.
* Gamers, Educators, and Writers can document the information for their projects using the basic relationships that the platform supports with a mind for how things fit together.
* Gamers can chronicle what happens in their game sessions alongside the mythology and history set up ahead of the game.
* Archivos allows the user to engage with a narrative of any format.
* Even the unintended uses augment the intended uses.
* Archivos is built on the MongoDB structure.
* See the public story catalog without an account.
* Basic Level subscription for a free private story setting.
* Story setting is the bucket into which all your things are created and structured.
* Story elements go into the setting: characters, locations, events, etc.
* Each type of element has unique properties that help it contain your story setting (e.g. events have date fields).
* You can see a multi-dimensional view of the story you’re telling as a narrative network, even following different perspectives or plot elements.
* The setting is explored via the Story Web, the Living Map, and the Timeline
* There are unlimited story settings via the Personal Subscription is (at the time of recording) $6/mo.
* To share/publicize a story setting and collaboration features, the Professional Subscription is $8/mo.
* Collaborators can be invited to view/edit your setting as part of the Pro subscription with only a basic (free) subscription (and they still get to play with their own free private setting).
* (Virtual Assistants might look into offering Archivos setting organization as a service)
* Subscribe to the Archivos YouTube channel to see Archivos Tutorial Videos on YouTube and help Dave earn a custom URL.
