Hans Kelsen said in 1932, “Whoever is for democracy cannot let himself be caught in the fateful contradiction of reaching for dictatorship to save democracy.” This week we take a look at the steps that lead to democratic backsliding and dig into some examples of countries who once were flourishing democracies, and ultimately crossed the line into dictatorship.
