Show Notes Episode 381: SHOUT! SHOUT! Shouting With the Devil

Part Two of Spooktacular 2022

This week Host Dave Bledsoe digs out his Iron Maiden t-shirt, straps on his leather and spikes and tries to relive his headbanging youth, only to grievously injure his neck and need an appointment with his chiropractor. (He is OLD!) On the show this week we head back to the Glory Days of Heavy Metal when Satan reigned supreme and everyone was worried the kids were practicing the Dark Arts. (This was before Satan got into producing Boy Bands)

Along the way we learn that Dave’s indoctrination involved a deal with the Devil (Because apparently the Devil needed a Dungeon Master’s Guide) Then we dive right into the history of Heavy Metal from its humble origins as acid influenced guitar shredding and the short, quick march into the occult realms of(checks our research notes) JRR Tolkien. We tell you about why Black Sabbath used some many “diabolical” themes in their music (Hint: because it was COOL AS HELL!) and Alisteir Crowley became the go to guy for every Heavy Metal songwriter. (Drugs, it was the drugs.) Then we explain why people thought Heavy Metal musicians and their record labels thought the bands were telling their fans to kill themselves. (We guess all the money, drugs and sex was really getting them down.) Finally we explain why young people like to listen to loud angry music for all you parents out there. (Hint: Because they’re teenagers)
