The storyline tells the tragic tale of two young black boys named Turner and Elwood who are transferred to the cruel reform school Nickel Academy. Although the book is lengthy, it is well worth reading because of its exquisite writing. With a twist toward the book's conclusion that recontextualizes everything that has happened so far, the story is written in a way that plays with the reader's impression of its narrative. For reasons I can't discuss without giving away the entire book, this is done in a way that would make it challenging to adapt to the screen.
