Secret #13: Challenge Funnels
If you’re dying to completely change one area of your life — be it your health, wealth, or relationships — you’d wish someone would hold your hand and guide you through the process, right? You know you can’t read a couple of books and expect the problem would go away, and signing up with expensive mentors usually isn’t the best thing to do when starting out.
For me, when I was starting my e-commerce business, I bought courses and paid for mentorships to make sure I was going down the right path. While the content was helpful, the tasks weren’t necessarily arranged in a sequence — well, it’s just a course, right? What I needed then is a process. I want my coach to post videos day by day, and I would just do the homework for that day. This format is called a Challenge.
Firstly, we need to design the challenge well. Anything shorter than 14 days doesn’t build enough trust with your tribe. Anything longer than 30 days will cause people to lose interest.
Next, decide where to host your challenge. Usually, we can host it in a private Facebook group, since usually the members that signed up for your challenge have an account anyway, and you can archive the group when you’re done, and open another group for the next challenge.
Third, decide your medium to deliver the content. We usually find live video to be the best, because it has a sense of urgency for people to tune in at a designated time. This encourages people to show up, and their commitment to the day’s task becomes higher.
Lastly, at the end of your challenge, this is your chance to move your customers up the value ladder. Usually, it can be priced around $997, depending on what you’re offering.
On page 1, you need to clearly tell your audience that you’ll get X result in Y days. The result must be simple and believable. Show that you’ve done it before to establish credibility. The process must be clear. Paint a picture of your participants after the challenge where they accomplish the result. Where possible, feature their video testimonials, get them to talk about how they feel, what they accomplished, and exactly what problem or pain went away.
Lastly, your sales page needs to include your order bump. Your order bump should enhance your participants’ experience of the challenge. This can be audiobooks, additional assets or printouts.
On pages 2 and 3, this is where you upsell your customers. The best upsells are the ones that our customers believe will help them to complete the challenge. This can be accountability coaches, journals, or workbooks.
The last page is your thank you page, where you’ll summarise their purchase, and tell them exactly what to do next to access the members’ area.
