As believers, we belong to the spiritual family and lineage of Christ. According to Ephesians 4:1–7, those who are called by God must live lives worthy of that calling, showing humility, gentleness, patience, and unity.
When we receive Christ (John 1:12), we become what 1 Peter 2:9 describes as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special people. Because we belong to this family and are priests of God, we should not live carelessly; our lifestyle, behaviour, and character should reflect holiness.
God expects His children to be humble in every situation regardless of their position or status, because pride is the opposite of humility and has no place in the life of a believer.
Believers must walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 19–22), producing the fruit of the Spirit instead of the works of the flesh. Also, following Christ may involve suffering (Philippians 1:29), but it is part of the calling of those who belong to Him.
