This is one of the most personal episodes of Freshly Grounded I’ve ever recorded.
Idris Shah isn’t just my guest — he’s been one of the most important people in my life for the past 12 years. He was my very first friend when I started practicing Islam. At a time when I felt completely alone, Idris — three years younger, shy, and quietly dedicated — became my anchor.
In this episode, we talk about how we met during itikaf, how he helped me through some of my darkest moments, how his recitation inspired me, how we became family, neighbours, and lifelong brothers.
We also dive into his incredible journey of memorizing the Qur’an, earning his ijazah, and the lessons he’s taught me about patience, humility, and reliance on Allah.
This is more than just a conversation. It’s a glimpse into a friendship rooted in faith, love, and mercy.
