In this episode, we sit down with one of my best friends, Travis Ewert. He talks about what drove him to be a teacher, he discusses his gratefulness of looping with his class during a pandemic, as well as some innovative ideas he brings into the classroom for his students each year.

We talk about his inspiration for the type of teacher he wants to be. He even gives a powerful example of a moral discussion he had with his class and the type of foundational practices that he hopes to instill in his students for their future. We state countless times Travis is the type of teacher we both wish we had throughout our years in school.

He brings up a practice he does yearly, that he has found to be a powerful tool in his teaching habits. A practice he got from the book Teach Like A Pirate.

We have a discussion on his philosophy about punishment in his classroom and how he utilizes the situation to build relationships.

Towards the end, we discuss how Travis flips the switch and how he found his tried making sure he takes time to unwind during his journey.
