Episode 4 - Bridging the Gap and Equality in Engineering

Listen Later

This week, I spoke to Maxine and Nadia who have founded 'Bridging the Gap: A Student Collective' at SOAS. We sat down and spoke about the attainment gap, race and the privilege of university. I also interviewed Abby Berhane who is trying to close the equality gap in the Engineering at Sussex University. We spoke about her experience as a woman in her academic career so far. These amazing women are doing a lot for their fields in order to give support to their peers, close the gap in attainment and create spaces for dialogue around inequality. Bridging the Gap:Addressing the racial attainment gap by using our individual skills & resources to challenge structures that uphold racial inequality in higher education.Instagram: @bridgingtgFacebook: @bridgingTG1Equality in Engineering:Equality in Engineering (EinE) is a society unique to the University of Sussex, addressing the diversity deficit in engineering. We think it is important to not only tackle the gender gap, but also ones related to race, socioeconomic background, able-ism, sexuality and many more other issues. We believe it is important to create a new wave of diverse engineers and continue encouraging minorities in engineering. EinE believes that diversity in engineering is important because diversity in problem solving is crucial.Instagram: @equalityinengineeringFacebook: @equalityinengineering
