Episode 4: How Saying the B-Word Adds To Your Life

Listen Later

How often do you say the B word?

Before you all get confused, I am not talking about anything vulgar. The “B word” in this conversation is boundaries.I know just how difficult it is for mature moms to say “no” to things. Unfortunately, commitments have consequences. When you say yes to a commitment, it goes without saying it takes away time with your child.

Not setting boundaries when I should have is among the things I’m not proud of today. I wasn’t there for my daughter as much as I’d have loved to. I had so many commitments during and after my pregnancy that I missed some things in my daughter’s life. For instance, we never had a bedtime routine.

Ladies, we need to understand that life is seasonal. Sometimes we have summer, and other times we have fall. I was looking at my garden, and I realized that some plants have deep roots. I may not see the flowers now, but it’s just a matter of time and season before I get a beautiful blossom, and as much as I want to have the blossom sooner, I cannot. I must wait for the season to come. Equally, we cannot keep lingering in a past season. We need to know when a ship has sailed. We need to learn when and where to draw the line.

1. If you need time off social media, go for it.

2. If you need time alone, do not hesitate to have your phone on voicemail.

3. If your current environment is toxic, move to another environment by all means.

Boundaries add to life! The sooner we have them, the better it is for us. In this episode, I share the challenges we encounter as mature moms when setting boundaries, how to set them, and why it is essential to set them. Also, I will share some amazing posts I saw on social media this week.

Inspirational Quotes from the Episode:

“When we talk about boundaries, I’m talking about a limit of your sphere of activity.”

“Boundaries will add to your life, when you think of that word, add the opposite of add or subtract. If you don’t have a limit to what you are active in, then you’re going to subtract. You’re going to withdraw yourself from the one thing that you waited for, for so long.”

“I learned from my garden that there are roots that are so deep in right now and even though I don’t see the flowers, it doesn’t mean that the plant is not still there. As soon as the weather shifts in another couple of months, I’m going to have beautiful flowers and Calla lilies and all types of beautiful plants that are just going to spring back up.”

“Watch your commitments because they have consequences.”

“Whatever you spend the most time around has the greatest impact on your mindset, which is why boundaries are so very important.”
