The event was notable for the first Hell in a Cell match pitting The Undertaker against Shawn Michaels and the debut of Undertaker's storyline brother Kane, who interfered in that match and eventually Michaels won to become the number one contender for a WWF World Heavyweight Championship match against reigning champion Bret Hart. The show would also mark the last time Vince McMahon was part of the commentating team for a pay per view.
