Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neil were not friends and had never even met. Yet, fate would land them on opposite ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. One was a staunch Conservative the other a Boston Liberal. It looked like nothing but constant stalemate was on the agenda. But together they made the 1980's roar.
And they became friends after 6 o'clock.
They also turned our economy around, saved Social Security and brought down Communism. A remarkable set of accomplishments for two people so totally opposite. The key was not only mutual respect and trust but the fact that no matter what, they never stopped trying to make it work. A lesson our current leaders could use to make our system work today.
