Travis Thurston is the Assistant Director in the Office of Empowering Teaching Excellence (ETE) at Utah State University. Travis directs all professional development programming: developing and facilitating seminars, workshops, and a teaching conference focused on the improvement of teaching. Travis works with instructors at Utah State, including full-time, adjunct, staff, and graduate students who have a teaching role at the university. 

Travis created and facilitates the ETE 10 Professional Learning Pathways micro-credentialing program to support instructors in engaging in individualized instructional development and reflective teaching practices. While the program launched four years ago, USU recently adopted Badgr to facilitate this new program utilizing the Pathways LTI in Canvas.

Travis started as a high school teacher before moving into the higher ed space as an instructional designer and adjunct instructor. He holds a Masters of Educational Technology from Boise State University and a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Utah State University. His research focuses on improving digital-age instruction. Travis and his wife Jenny have four children whose athletic and academic endeavors contribute to his perspectives on teaching and learning.
