Baird is a Vietnam veteran and was recognized with a Bronze Star with V device and two Purple Hearts.

He holds a Bachelors and Masters of Science from Purdue University and a doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky.

Baird was elected to Congress in 2018 after serving eight years in the Indiana General Assembly.
