Episode 4: What would you like to do today?

In the previous episode, we looked at clarifying what success actually means when you make the transition from a postcard concept to a movie concept. I have a list of 10 criteria of achieving success, the first of which is this: If I can wake up and ask myself “what would I like to do today?”, I know I’m being successful.

  1. Implies certain degree of freedom. Freedom of time, money
  2. No time obligations and no deadlines. You’re in charge
  3. Implies vacation. Significant time off. Or, you’re deeply in love with your work.

    4. Let’s go through each of them

    1. Freedom of time and money: results-based work. Automated systems. BOAF (Build-once-and-forget) processes is a large part of revenue generation. Higher perceived value than the actual total cost of supplying the product.
    2. You’re in charge: Entrepreneur. Owner of the business. Take risk or save to buy businesses?
    3. Time off/Love the work:
      1. Time off: You’ve built a team. You’ve completely replaced yourself in the revenue-generating aspect of the business
      2. Love the work: You’ve hit jackpot. Self-actualizing. In the zone of genius.

        3. Top 3 skills

        1. Leadership/Team-building: understand you need people. You need talent. People better than you to make the pie larger.
        2. Sales/Persuasion: you might not be in sales, but you’re always selling. Recognise the importance of sales. A business cannot survive when revenue is less than cost. An individual cannot survive if his income is less than his expenditure.
        3. Self-actualization: If you need a break, then don’t come back. Subset of knowing yourself, is being rational. Look at the data. Play both sides. Set aside feelings and reassess from a 3rd person perspective.
