Whether we embrace it as relative, or as absolute, we are all, in some ways, engaged in the pursuit of truth. The question Pontius Pilate asks in our lesson for this week, “What is truth?”, is deeply philosophical and theological, and throughout history, has led to many unsatisfactory answers. As we work through John’s gospel, we find the beloved disciple is directing us to understand that it’s not “what”, but “who”, that truth is found not in an idea, or a system of living, or in an enlightened state of mind, but in the person of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word of God.
