When I left the bubble of advertising, I realised just how much I didn't know, or more to the point, how much that bubble within the agency has protected me.

All of the help I needed, the people, and the advice and resources were all there in front of me, but I couldn't see them because I wasn't looking for them.

It was a huge mistake to leave the agency without leaving the groundwork for a successful exit.

Like Jon Snow, I knew nothing.

I didn't know how much I should be paid, what goes into a contract, where do I get my next job, what do I need to have in my portfolio.

What was I thinking? I was a complete embarrassment.

Without a strategic plan and resources to keep you going, you will always be destined for failure.

The perception of freedom that comes with freelancing soon fades into the reality of bills to pay, networking to do and creating work that you're not excited about, just to have an income.
