Dave Chapelle's latest Netflix special 'The Closer' continues his much familiar pattern of highlighting what could be considered to be the double standards and intolerance of some in the LGBTQ+ community. True to form there have been calls from many from the LGBTQ+ community for the show to be removed as it is deemed offensive and alleges that it encourages the persecution of its members. Although so far Netflix is standing firm against this pressure, there is a legitimate discussion to be had about how to balance freedom of speech, freedom of opinion and freedom of expression in society with so many competing interests, so has society become too sensitive that no one should feel offended? Also following the recent murder of MP David Amess during his Friday surgery in his constituency and the lengths protestors appear to be going to in order to make their voices or political points heard, we explore whether society has also become more extreme, what this means for tolerance and what if anything is the solution.
