The Humboldt Lighthouse

Episode 41: Francis R. - Running with the Beatniks, LSD in the 60's & Crazy Wisdom

Listen Later

Francis R. was born midway through WWII, never imagining the journey ahead until finding himself riding the crest of the Bay Area’s counter-cultural revolution. Francis palled around with the famous Beatniks, managed the Sons of Champlin rock band, and ultimately dropped out to live the simple life on a homestead in Humboldt County, California. In this conversation we discuss the causes and conditions leading to the 1960’s cultural revolution, the Beatniks, America’s cultural shift after WWII, the movement of Eastern thought to the West, LSD and higher consciousness, and Michael Pollan’s recent bestseller How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence.
