On February 4th, Senator Romney released his proposal for relieving poverty and providing a tax credit for children in lower-income families. This is a proposal in addition to President Biden’s proposal of child credit tax in his stimulus package. Senator Romney is proposing the Family Security Act. According to the Act, it “would provide a monthly cash benefit for families, amounting to $350 a month for each young child, and $250 a month for each school-aged child.” According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, “President Biden’s $1.9 trillion emergency relief plan includes a Child Tax Credit expansion that would lift 9.9 million children above or closer to the poverty line.”
