Located in what is now called Eastern Nigeria, there was once a place called the Land of the Seven Hills, and there was a great mountain that went by the name of Ogene. It was a mountain that would put Everest to shame, and came equipped with its very own crater lake, filled and surrounded by plants and creatures that existed nowhere else on Earth.
A few harvests before Ogene’s one millionth birthday, the Wise Ones in the Great Beyond sent down a message thanking Ogene for “…outstanding service as a mountain…” and also with instructions to retire (by crumbling) on the said millionth birthday. Such was the way of things back in those times.
As Ogene prepared to self-destruct, it sent word down to all the wise elders in the Land of the Seven Hills to prepare for the coming geographical changes by, for example, building a mighty dam to protect them the waters of Ogene’s lake. You would expect a gathering of the eminent and the wise to result in swift and decided action. Unfortunately, this was not the case…
