Hagar is pregnant, abused, and running. A servant caught in the crossfire of other people's bad decisions. And in the wilderness, the angel of the Lord finds her. "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?" God sees her. God calls her by name. God gives her a promise about her son. Hagar becomes the first person in Scripture to give God a name: El Roi—"the God who sees." She was nobody in that household. A womb for rent. But God saw her. If you've been invisible, used, forgotten—this passage says you're not. The God who saw Hagar sees you.
