We are in this world, but not of it.  Peter refers to believers as sojourners, and pilgrims.  We are people on a journey to a sacred place.  We are eternal beings and what's awaits us as Christians is an incredible home in Heaven with Jesus.  Don't get caught up in the affairs of this world and ignore what lays before us.  The best is yet to be!  Check out episode 45 of the Magnificent Obsession devotional podcast with Danny Miller.
