Why do bad things happen to good people? What does the Bible say about suffering? What does the Bible say about struggling with depression and anxiety? The truth is, the Scripture is full of examples of people experiencing tragedies, unfair treatment, and daily life problems. From the time of the original sin in the garden to now, pain and suffering has been woven throughout the lives of all living beings. God, in his deep love for his children, allowed us the freedom to choose to accept or reject him from the beginning. So, when Adam and Eve made their choice, sin entered the world and it now affects us all. The Bible says no one is righteous, no not one. So, don't think you would have chosen differently… Sin is the source of all anxiety, pain, death, tragedy, and tears. So, if sin is the source of our emotional agony, physical ailments, and depraved minds, where do we find hope? Where do go to for encouragement during hard times? The answer lies in the only one who has never sinned and who rescued us from our own sin: Jesus. Pain reminds us that we have a great need for God and that we are all desperately wicked because we are marred by sin. Thankfully, you and I have a savior and a perfect example of what perseverance looks like in the face of suffering. So, hear these words of encouragement today, that even in our pain and even though bad things happen to good people, we have a ray of hope and a future with our Savior who made a way for us to come out of the darkness and into redemption.
