A Republican senator from Wisconsin was elected in 1947, and life as we knew it was about to change. Joseph McCarthy was obsessed with the "red scare", that communists had infiltrated America and it's way of life and he saw it as his "duty" to expose this threat, by any means necessary including infringing on peoples freedom and helping to divide a nation.

Award winning, best selling author Larry Tye explores this in his fantastic new book Demagogue: The Life and Long Shadow of Senator Joe McCarthy.
