April 16 marks the 126th anniversary of the birth of Charlie Chaplin in 1889.
Here are some things you may not have known about Chaplin.
First: Chaplin was born in London and his childhood was marked by poverty. His father abandoned the family and Chaplin spent two spells in a workhouse before he turned nine.
Second: At age 14, Chaplin began performing in music halls as an actor and comedian. At 19, he moved to the United States and began making films and creating his signature character “The Tramp.”
Third: In the 1940s, Chaplin became unpopular in the United States for his political views and was forced to leave the country for Switzerland, where he lived until his death on Christmas Day 1977.
Our question: In 1919, Chaplin, along with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and D.W. Griffith, formed a movie studio. What was the name of the studio?
