Hi Mujeres! We have a special series as April is Autism Awareness Month! Part 1 of our series features a previous guest, Krystal, that is sister and guardian to 18 year old Jr. Krystal shares their journey and wants to bring awareness to autism as well as sharing the plentiful of resources that are available for children and adults on the spectrum
Krystal shares with us, "Jr is an 18 year old non-verbal high school senior with Autism. He was diagnosed around the age of 3-4. His favorite activities are legos, puzzles, word searches, riding his bike, watching classic Disney movies, listening to music and basketball! As a little kid, he would have tantrums daily, self harm, needed a lot of assistance and prompting. Throughout the years, he has learned how to be independent, communicate with his speaking device and has absolutely amazed us with his perseverance. Jr can complete almost any home chore or task you ask of him and is a huge help around the house. Once of my favorite things about him is how loving he is. It is difficult for those with autism to show and even receive affection because of the sensory output. Jr although can be stubborn at times is always willing to give you hugs and kisses! He's currently working on his money counting abilities and I know with time and continued support he will have that mastered."
