Who’s excitedly making summer plans? Looking for some dynamite PD (aka: professional development)? This episode is a rebroadcast from one of our “Teacher PD Week” Episodes in summer of 2020 - and where we announce our plans for PD Weekend 2021!

What started as a search for finding the “right” terminology lead to a deep and somewhat life-changing conversation with master conductor Dr. Stephen Sieck. Dr. Sieck was challenged by his students to rethink his personal goals in rehearsal which led him into all the research outside of music related to inclusivity. Dr. Sieck took his findings and shared some ways for us as directors and leaders to examine how and who we are actually welcoming into our classroom.

Dr. Sieck also takes the time in this episode to define words that may be new or foggy - let’s  face the “fear of terms” and instead figure out how we can create a space and lead in a place that is culturally aware and representative.
