In 1915, as the Great War reaches across the ocean, a Tsilhqot’in family in western Canada is pulled into its shadow. Tatl’ah learns that his eldest son has enlisted to fight for the very empire that once took their land, a decision that reopens old wounds for his father, Nak’azdli, who still remembers the uprising of his youth. Caught between two generations with different visions of loyalty, Tatl’ah struggles to keep his family together while the river that sustained their people bears witness to what is lost—and what may yet be lost again.
