Two angels arrive in Sodom at evening. Lot welcomes them—urgently, because he knows what Sodom is. But the men of the city surround the house, demanding the visitors be brought out "that we may know them." Every man in the city, young and old, from every quarter. This is Sodom's true character revealed. Lot offers his daughters instead—a horrifying choice that shows how corrupted even Lot has become. The angels intervene, striking the mob with blindness. Two cities, two welcomes. Abraham ran to serve strangers with hospitality. Sodom surrounds them with violence. The contrast could not be starker.
