These days I often get the question, “Why would you leave a stable, high-paying job to work for yourself at a scrappy start-up?”
When I made the decision, I knew that not everyone would agree with it. I knew that not everyone would see it, and that is ok. I have always said, “I see it because I believe it”. In this case I see the path forward, and I believe Enerflo is and will be the dominant residential solar sales platform.
Regardless, the next question that inevitably follows is, “What if you fail?”
Well . . . former first lady, Rosalynn Carter, once said, “You must accept that you might fail; then if you do your best and still don’t win, at least you can be satisfied that you’ve tried. If you don’t accept failure as a possibility, you don’t set high goals, you don’t branch out, you don’t try, you don’t take the risk.”
When I met the co-founders of Enerflo I knew I wanted to be a part of the business they created. I don’t believe in chance, but I do believe the there are opportunities all around us and we have the choice as to whether we pursue them or not.
I saw an opportunity in a product that fit a need, a product that my existing business partners wanted, a product that adds value to the residential solar space, and a product that can help customers achieve energy independence by lowering the cost of solar energy.
After looking at the core tenants of the company, I knew I had made the right decision.
At Enerflo we have lofty goals. Goals that can change the world, and the satisfaction of trying to change the world outweighs the possibility of failing along the way. After all, if not us, then who?
So this week ask yourself, are you accepting that you might fail? If not, then you are not dreaming big enough.
