The sound of loud whisperings woke him suddenly. 

It was as if he was surrounded by many people and when he turned on the night lamp beside his bed, the weak light showed only an empty room. 

Wincing at the pounding in his head, he walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water and rummaged in the medicine cabinet for something to ease his worsening headache.

As he turned off the kitchen lights, he caught a movement of sluggish shadows from the kitchen to his bedroom. 

Casting it off as the effects of his groggy state, he ignored it and crawled back into his bed, confident that he would be back to his own healthy self the day after.
