Listen Later

On episode 5 of the 'From The Horse's Mouth Podcast' I chat with former champion jockey, Clare Lindop. We talk about growing up in Wangoom and how she originally got interested in horses by riding at St Mary's Pony Farm. Clare then became an apprentice jockey in 1994 before eventually graduating to a senior rider in 2000. We chat about her early career and touch on some of her most famous rides, including her first Melbourne Cup ride in 2003 abroad Debben, in doing so, becoming the first Australian female jockey to ride in the Melbourne Cup. In another record breaking effort, Clare became the first Australian Female jockey to win a Group 1 race with Exalted Time in the 2006 Adelaide Cup. In 2008 Clare won the VRC Derby with South Australian horse 'Rebel Raider' at odds of 150-1! Clare is one of the most successful Australian jockeys and it was an absolute honour to be able to sit down and chat to her about her amazing career. Sit back and enjoy the career and life of Clare Lindop!
