Welcome back to Barefaced! We are diving into a much debated, highly controversial topic today: beauty MLMs.  While MLMs exist across many different industries, today we are going to be discussing four beauty MLMs: Avon, Mary Kay, Beautycounter, and Rodan & Fields. Some of you may know of these thanks to Edward Scissorhands or your Facebook feed, and some of you may have never heard of them. We're going into their histories, business structures, earnings reports, and sharing anecdotes of our own experiences with MLMs. This is a longer episode and we cover a lot of material so get some snacks, get comfy, and enjoy! 

Helpful terms

MLM: multi-level marketing; a direct sales strategy in which everyday people sell products directly to consumers and recruit others to join as sellers (consultants). 

Downline: the sellers that another seller has recruited to the company. The recruiter is generally paid a percentage of their downline's sales. 

Consultants: independent sellers who are selling the product directly to the consumer. They "own their business" and are not employees of the company.
