Episode 5: The Munich Massacre - When Sport Became War

Listen Later

The Olympics are supposed to be about peace, pride, and podiums. But in Munich, 1972, that ideal was shattered when eight members of the Black September Organization stormed the Olympic Village and took 11 Israeli athletes hostage. What followed was a 21-hour siege broadcast around the world and a series of failures that still haunt Olympic history.

This is a story of how sport collided with politics in the most tragic way. We also explore the decades-long fight for justice led by two of the victims’ widows, and how the 2022 memorial finally acknowledged the truth.
