Episode 50: Aesop Rock - Labor Days

Listen Later

Well we did it. we made it to 50 episodes and to celebrate we're covering one of the darlings of underground hip hop. Aesop Rock's 3rd studio album, Labor Days, is one of the more consequential records for backpack rap/nerd rap/underground hip hop/whatever you wanna call it. Aesop Rock really developed his unique, ultra wordy lyrical style and off-kilter, esoteric flow on this album and manage to make a few relative hits in the process with "Daylight" being considered a corner stone of not only his discography but also the genre as a whole to this day.

The version of the vinyl I have is the most standard standard can get. Standard weight dual LPs in standard paper sleeves (which I replaced with poly-lined) housed in a very standard single sleeve jacket. No frills, no bells or whistles, just the album presented as it is. Sounds good though and that's what really matters.

In the news corner this week we mourn the death of the music blog, specifically metal blogs, specifically MetalSucks and Metal Injection, at the hands of their corporate overlords.
