Unless you have been hiding in a bunker beneath the city, you are probably aware of the fact that things are a little different in Seattle (and the US) right now. With COVID-19 making the rounds, most companies are making compromises and sending as many people to work from home as possible.

While this isn’t how we expected to spend our milestone 50th episode, it seemed like the right time to make an episode about the ins and outs of working at home.

We talk about:

• Finding ‘Focus Tasks’ that need more time and energy than you usually have and taking advantage of this quiet time to tackle them
• Tips for how to focus on getting work done when you are working from home (especially since your whole family might be home too!)
• The difference in impact on companies who are prepared to have people working remotely, and why it’s so valuable to have that structure already built-in when things like this happen
• The impact of paid sick time, and why it can keep your team (and you) healthier in the long run

We also gave some resources for keeping kids busy as more and more schools are cancelling classes. Here are the links for those:

• Gamestar Mechanic (This is a fun game making site where kids start to learn some very basic skills for video game design.)
• Scratch (A ‘first steps’ programming tool designed for children by MIT.)
• Code.Org / Hour of Code – Another early game making / programming resource
• Khan Academy – A great site for brushing up on pretty much any school subject at pretty much any grade level
• Udemy – A site for older kids and young adults (and adults!) where you can learn pretty much any software, as well as lots of other useful skills.
