It’s May 1, which means it’s the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month. Music has the ability to bring us comfort and empower us when we need it most. I’m delighted to welcome Matteson Gregory back to the show for a very special and important conversation about finding comfort and empowerment through music.
The quote for this episode is by Taylor Swift: “People haven’t always been there for me, but music always has.” Matteson and I have such an open and honest conversation about how music has been there for us. From comforting us and making us feel less alone to empowering us, music has been something we both turn to during challenging times. We experience these feelings of comfort and empowerment both as songwriters and listeners of music. Matteson shares the story behind her song, “War with Myself,” and goes deep with what it means to her, favorite lyrics, and more. I do the same with my debut single, “Into Focus.” Then, we share our top five favorite songs by other artists that bring us comfort and empower us. Also, Matteson and I share advice for writing these kinds of songs, talk about the beautiful community aspect of music, and much more. We hope this conversation puts a smile on your face and makes you feel seen and heard. Just like Taylor Swift said, music will always be there for you.
