Fashion saved my life! It allowed me to express myself when I had trouble expressing myself verbally"

Janielle Mckoy is an eclectic wardrobe stylist, visual display artist and now advocate for youth and adults living with Dyslexia. She is known for her effortless take on style and let's her clothes tell a story. Having immersed herself in fashion styling for 15 years, Janielle is known as one of the most influential forces working in fashion today.

Born of Jamaican descent in Toronto, Canada, Janielle was exposed at a very young age to the worlds of art and fashion. With her mother’s influence and innovative style, she developed a very strong passion for vintage and all things eclectic. While attending George Brown College and studying Fashion Management, Janielle was diagnosed with Dyslexia at age 23. Once she received the tools to help her overcome her disability, Janielle completed the fashion management program and was nominated for valedictorian based on her hard work overcoming this learning obstacle and pursuing her career as a stylist while attending college. Janielle then moved to New York City to take on the fashion capital of the world. She started her New York experience by interning as a wardrobe stylist at BET Television Network, where she styled the hit countdown show 106 & Park. Seeking to diversify her experience, she began to work directly with pop stars and actresses to create their images on and off camera.

Being a proud Toronto native, Janielle decided to undertake a new challenge and move back to her city and put her New York hustler mentality to use. Immediately, Janielle made a name for herself amongst artist and brands in Toronto, New York, and Atlanta by singlehandedly bringing her classy yet funky eclectic vintage style movement into fruition with her devotion to the style eras of the 1970's and 1980's. Her love and knowledge of fashion coupled with her desire to create the unexpected moments by adding prints, color and avant-garde trends made her the go-to stylist. Janielle got into the film and television industry in Toronto, where she was assigned working on movies such as Robo Cop and television shows like Suits and Defiance.

Determined to brand herself on a more corporate level, Janielle decided to try something new and work as a visual display artist at Canada's Top Menswear Company. While working here, Janielle was able to express her knowledge and love for menswear where it can be seen to the masses. She has received great reviews from top menswear brand representative from Giorgio Armani and Canali.

In 2011, Janielle decided to launch a workshop titled "Selling You" which targets youth and adults teaching them how to dress for success, how to go for the position that they want and branding themselves for success. Also, she has a workshop geared to youth and adults who have learning disabilities and how to overcome this obstacle and make it in society. Janielle was able to make it in the fashion industry not based on what she knew, but based on her determination, her eagerness, and love for all things fashion. She made her clothes speak for her when she was scared to do so verbally. Through this journey, she has been recognized by George Brown College as a successful Alumni and has partnered with the Learning Disabilities Associatio...
