Many of our Christmas symbols and traditions have pagan origins. However, the Christmas tree appears to be an exception. There is no evidence of any pagan religion decorating a special holiday tree for their mid-winter festivals. From the days of the early church, Christmas trees have been used as Christian symbols to teach about Christ.

 

We explore the history of the Christmas tree in Christendom. And we identify 10 object lessons that we discuss with our children this Christmas season based on the Christmas tree. Scriptures referenced include Jeremiah 10:2-4; Romans 14:23; Jeremiah 2:27; John 8:12; John 12:46; John 1:9; and Psalm 27:1.
