In 1861, a merchant brigantine was built in Nova Scotia and named the Amazon. By 1872, the boat had changed ownership multiple times, had major changes made to it, and acquired it’s new name, Mary Celeste. In early November of 1872, Captain Benjamin Briggs, his wife, and their 2 year old daughter, along with seven crew members would set sail on Mary Celeste across the Atlantic. A few days later, the ship was found abandoned by another cargo ship at sea. There were no passengers on board, the lifeboat was gone, and there were no signs of a struggle. What happened to the Mary Celeste’s passengers?
